Mike Tyson, the famous heavyweight champion of the world, has gone through many ups and downs in his life. His first downfall came when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, the sentence was commuted to four years, and he was released on parole after just three years. While speaking about his time in prison, he revealed getting into several altercations.
This was mainly because of Tyson’s attitude, as he did not believe that he belonged in prison. In an episode of the podcast ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson‘ the former heavyweight champion revealed that he was sentenced to an additional year for his misdeeds. As such, Tyson stated:
When I first came there, I was mad at everybody; I didn’t know they all wanted to show me love, so I’m fighting the guards and stuff, but then the guards were telling me how to move. So, now I’m the man; I am getting food; I have women; I am the man in prison.
Tyson revealed what his experience in prison was like at the beginning and how it changed gradually. Hence, Tyson was angry and acted out with everybody, but gradually he realized that the people loved and respected him. Subsequently, Tyson later had a great time in prison and described himself as the man of the prison.
However, sometime later, the prison guard who favored Tyson revealed something to him. As such, the guard reminded Tyson about his behavior when he initially came to the prison. Hence, because of the problems created by Tyson at that time, they had to give him an extra year in prison.
Mike Tyson’s rape case
Tyson was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of rape and sodomy in 1992. Subsequently, a beauty pageant contestant named Desiree Washington accused ‘Iron Mike’ of rape. She accused him of sexually abusing her after escorting her back to his hotel room after a beauty contest rehearsal in July 1991.
Washington reported the attack to police and later stated in court that ‘Iron Mike’ laughed while she was crying. Furthermore, it should be noted that Tyson stated that whatever happened between the two of them was consensual.
In March 1992, he was found guilty of the charges and initially sentenced to ten years in prison, his sentence was commuted to six years with four years of supervised probation. Tyson was released after only three years in prison.
