Moving ahead, let’s take a deeper look at the backstory of ‘The Rock’s’ inception.

From where ‘The Rock’ stemmed from? Explained

After WWE in 1996, Johnson got the name Rocky Maivia, resembling his father’s and grandfather’s names. Although Johnson’s initial run didn’t go down to the pages of  history as a fan favorite with crowds largely booing with “Rocky sucks.” chant. But situation took a shift with Johnson gradually taking over the pro wrestling world.

To initiate such a transitional phase, Johnson made a huge comeback following an injury in 1997. A heel turn as part of the Nature of the Domination turned a blessing to his career. The WWE world champion then couldn’t align his Rocky Maivia name to his new character and hence adopted a new name, “The Rock.”
