Being courted by a partner, but it seems that the female Wobbegong shark “ignores” causing the male shark to become angry and attack continuously.
The fight “for love” between these two Wobbegong sharks (carpet sharks) was captured by diver Dave Wyatt while exploring the Gold Coast (Australia).
The male Wobbegong shark came forward to flirt with the female shark, but the mate showed no desire to mate.
Immediately, the male shark attacked and bit the female fish.
Resisting, the female shark struggled to dislodge the male. It finally got rid of the male fish.
Dave Wyatt said that during mating season male Wobbegong sharks can also secrete pheromones into the water to attract females.
With the consent of the mate, the male shark will bite the female and insert the attachment lobe (a penis-like organ) into the female’s cloaca to release the fertilized sperm.
