These giants use baleen plates, which are comb-like structures in their mouths, to filter small organisms like krill from the water. On the other hand, Odontoceti, which includes species such as the orca and the sperm whale, have teeth and are often known for their intelligence and complex social structures. Toothed whales are adept predators and use echolocation to hunt and navigate underwater. Whales are known for their impressive migratory patterns, traveling thousands of miles between feeding and breeding grounds. For instance, the humpback whale undertakes one of the longest migrations of any mammal, journeying between its feeding grounds in polar waters and its breeding grounds in tropical or subtropical waters. Whales also communicate using a variety of sounds; baleen whales are famous for their haunting songs, which can travel long distances across the ocean and are thought to play a role in mating rituals and social interactions.
