Vinicius Jr has addressed speculation about a potential transfer to the Premier League, as both Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly contemplate pursuing the Real Madrid star.
The 24-year-old former Flamengo prodigy is now recognized as one of the top players in global football.
He was a leading contender for the 2024 Ballon d’Or but withdrew from the ceremony this week, along with the rest of the Real Madrid team, after it was announced that Rodri of Manchester City had secured the award.
The Brazilian later shared a determined message on X, stating, “I will do 10x if necessary. They are not prepared.”
Real Madrid voiced their support for Vinicius, with a club source informing AFP [via CNN]: “If the award criteria does not designate Vinicius as the winner, then those same criteria should have pointed to [Dani] Carvajal. Since this did not occur, it is evident that Ballon d’Or-UEFA does not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid does not go where it is not respected.”
Despite this backing, there are growing rumors about Vinicius possibly leaving the club when his current contract expires.
He is signed until 2027, and the Spanish outlet Relevo reported that he recently declined to enter negotiations for a new contract.
This comes amid reports that the Saudi Pro League is preparing another record offer to entice him away from the Bernabeu.
Last summer, they allegedly made a staggering proposal worth up to €1 billion (£837 million) over five years, which he turned down. However, they are expected to present a similar offer in the summer of 2025.
But the Saudis aren’t the only ones interested; Relevo also mentions that Manchester United, Chelsea, and French club PSG are monitoring his contract situation.
In 2022, when asked about a possible move to the Premier League, Vinicius expressed his happiness at Real Madrid, stating, “I think I will play here until the end of my career. Of course, experiencing another league is important, and the Premier League is one that every player aspires to. But my dream has always been to play for Real Madrid.”
Relevo also reports that Madrid is eager to secure Vinicius with a new long-term deal to avoid a repeat of Kylian Mbappe’s controversial transfer to the club this summer.
Mbappe left PSG on a free transfer after his contract ended, amid ongoing disputes with the French club over alleged unpaid bonuses from his time at the Parc des Princes.
