Trevor Lawrence opens up on Jaguars’ “frustrating” 0-4 start to the season
Trevor Lawrence is suddenly finding himself back where his career began – mired in a poor start. The Jacksonville Jaguars started their campaign on a very bad note, losing their first four games – a far cry from their dominant run from the second half of 2022 to the first half of 2023.
Speaking to the media after Sunday’s 24-20 loss at the Houston Texans, the starting quarterback said (4:00 to begin):
“It’s been tough not having the success that we want, and it’s a lot of guys in there that put a lot of time in – coaches and players, and really everyone who works with the team. So it’s frustrating, it’s hard, but you have some adversity, you got to get through it, get to the other side of it, and it will help you in the long run, and that’s what we’re preaching as a team.”
Trevor Lawrence blames himself for Jaguars’ loss at Texans
The Texans game was reasonably close, with the Jaguars ahead 20-17 heading into the final 25 seconds. Then Dare Ogunbowale, who was Trevor Lawrence‘s teammate in 2021 (his rookie season), caught the go-ahead touchdown.
The game ended when the Texans’ defense swarmed the Jaguars on the last drive of the game, sacking Travis Etienne after a series of laterals. Nevertheless, Lawrence believed he could and should have played better, finishing with just 18 of 33 passes completed for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He said:
“I’m pretty frustrated. Like I said, a lot of missed opportunities. It’s kind of what’s been happening the past few weeks and weren’t able to overcome it today … When we have the game in our hands, we have to go win it. I felt like we obviously didn’t do that tonight, today. A lot of that is on me.”
He continued:
“There were some plays early in the game that, you know, I was just a little off and I got to hit those plays. We have some, one to ‘BT’ [Brian Thomas Jr.], one to Christian [Kirk], which obviously I want back those plays, so just got to hit those.”
