It all started when a mother abandoned her baby in the patio of a house located at Lord Byron at kilometer 45 of National Route 3, in Virrey del Pino, Buenos Aires.
The dog named Puti had just given birth to her puppies. Upon finding the baby abandoned, defenseless, and left to its fate, her mother’s heart did not allow her to remain indifferent.
So she took him with her to a small seat that she used to keep her babies sheltered. She took him in as if he were one of her puppies, because she knew that he needed her, he was totally helpless.

The neighbors fed Santino and then took him to the Doctor José Equiz Maternal and Child Hospital. He was hospitalized for several days receiving medical attention, he only had a month to live and suffered from severe malnutrition.
The authorities managed to find the mother just two days later and she was detained. At the moment, Santino and his brothers are in a maternal home.
The neighbors who found Santino knew the mother, since she had lived in the area some time ago and they comment that she had already tried to abandon one of her children on another occasion.
Puti’s maternal instinct was even stronger and saved the baby’s life.
«It was the coldest night, curling up under the dog saved the baby. “The only thing left was for her to breastfeed him, she took him in like another baby,” said the neighbor who heard the baby’s cry.
