Kassia’s Journey: From Suffering to Joy
On the outskirts of the city, we discovered a small dog in desperate need of help. Her belly bore a massive tumor, nearly a third of her body size. The tumor had likely been growing for years, scraping against the ground as she moved. Walking was a struggle for her, each step a challenge.
What happened to her owners and how they allowed her to suffer like this remains a mystery. Despite her condition, she showed incredible sweetness, kissing my hand repeatedly even though we were strangers. Her trust and gentle nature moved us deeply.
We named her Kassia and decided to take her to the capital for immediate medical attention. The veterinarians were shocked by the size of the tumor and her frail condition. Kassia, however, proved to be a fighter. She ate, drank, and wagged her tail whenever she recognized me, showing gratitude in her quiet, shy way.
The tumor, a massive mammary tumor, affected her entire left flank. She was malnourished and anemic, understandable given the strain her body had endured. Surgery was her only hope, but it was a complex case. The doctors, led by oncologist Dr. Yakunina, planned a series of surgeries, with everything hinging on the results of her CT scan.
The surgery was a success. Kassia’s strength and resilience carried her through. She began to heal, her wound slowly closing as her energy returned. Day by day, she grew stronger, her gentle spirit shining brighter with each passing moment.
Now, Kassia is thriving. She runs and plays freely, no longer burdened by the tumor that once defined her life. She has overcome unimaginable adversity, emerging as a symbol of hope and perseverance. Kassia’s journey is far from over, but it is now filled with warmth, love, and the promise of a brighter future.
To all who hear her story, Kassia is a reminder of the transformative power of compassion and care. She has found her second chance and is embracing it with joy and grace.
