However, the South Korean Army has now confirmed it was just a test-firing of its solid fuel missile.
The country’s defense ministry said the unannounced missile launch was part of a plan to build air surveillance capabilities and strengthen defenses. Authorities insist they did not inform the public about the launch because it involved sensitive military security issues. South Korea’s missile launch comes four days after it accused North Korea of flying five drones over the border between the two countries for the first time in five years. South Korean officials say they plan to use a solid-fuel rocket to put the first spy satellite into orbit. In March, South Korea also conducted the first successful launch of solid fuel rocket. Yesterday’s rocket launch was a follow-up to the launch nine months ago.
