On the southern Australian island of Tasmania, there is an extremely strange echidna called Echidna. This egg-laying animal is known as the animal that possesses… the strangest genitals in the world.
Along with the platypus, Echidna is the last monotreme that still exists in the world. Echidnas belong to the first branch of mammals but still have reptile characteristics, such as laying eggs instead of giving birth.
Echidna’s penis has 4 “proboscis” and looks quite similar to a hand.
Dr. Stuart Rose , who spent the last 25 years of his life studying the sex lives of echidnas, said the animals were tagged by farms here for easy research. During the breeding season, female echidnas are rarely alone because they are surrounded by many males.
The penis of the Echidna species has a very strange shape. It has 4 “heads” and at first glance, many people will mistake it for… a hand. The reason why the “thing” of the echidna has up to 4 “branches” is still being understood by scientists. The biggest reason is probably because the male Echidna increases the chances of fertilization in the “battle” with other opponents always surrounding his “girlfriend”.
Scientists are still researching why this animal has such strange genitals.
