Mudskippers are known as one of the most bizarre fish on the planet, knowing how to swim underwater, crawl on land, and even more strangely, they can climb on trees. This is a rare specialty fish of the mangrove waters of Ca Mau province.
Mudskipper is a rare specialty of the Ca Mau mangrove area
Mudskippers are classified by the World Organism as one of the six “strangest animals on the planet”. Including: Axopotl, Hungarian sheeping dog, Tapir, Angora rabbit, Emperor tamarin and Mudhopper.
This fish species mainly lives in mangrove forests and the Bai Boi area of Ca Mau Cape. Right from its shape, this fish is “weird” compared to regular fish with two bulging eyes like two marbles. Perhaps for that reason they are called mudskippers.

It is known that the mudskipper’s body can store water in its gills for respiration when on land, exchanging gases through its skin like a frog. It has 2 front fins that act as a “pair of hands”. Because of these body structures, mudskippers can climb trees and move from branch to branch extremely skillfully.
Mr. Bao An (a resident of Ca Mau) said that this fish is very cunning and agile in escaping from enemy attacks. Normally, when the water recedes, the mudskippers go into their burrows for shelter and when the water is high they come out to look for food. To hunt this fish, people have to fish during the day and use lights at night. Mudskippers will become motionless when the light shines in their eyes, so they are easy to catch.
