Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese reveals the shocking details of hate she has experienced from fans of WNBA rival Caitlin Clark.
Angel Reese is facing the wrath of fellow WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark’s fans
Since Caitlin Clark burst onto the women’s basketball scene, she has amassed a truckload of new fans. Fans that clamor every time she laces up, just to get a glimpse of her elite scoring. When Angel Reese and LSU stopped that ascension in its tracks, that too with a taunt, it was bound to irk those fans.
Now, as both are in the WNBA, Reese divulges some harrowing blowbacks she has received from those fans. She was speaking on her new podcast, Unapologetically Angel. When co-host Maya Reese asked her about those fans targeting her, the Chicago Sky rookie revealed some dark things.
After the 2024 NCAA March Madness, Angel Reese revealed that the hate against her had intensified. Now, she has revealed death threats, and people are stalking her. This is a serious question of player safety which has never occurred before in the WNBA.
Angel Reese’s situation might need a call for player security
NBA players have the luxury of private security around them whenever they are out in public. However, WNBA players have never had to resort to such requirements. After all, never before has the spotlight been so bright on women’s basketball.
Reese’s teammate Chennedy Carter was harassed by an independent reporter after she had body checked Caitlin Clark. At that time, the Chicago Sky players called out the league for failing to provide enough security to its players. With Reese’s revelations, it seems the WNBA might have to step in.
Player security is vital if the league has to go about continuing its growth. They can take a leaf out of their parent NBA’s book and invest. But there is still a limitation for league-provided security. For the likes of Angel Reese, private security might be the answer.
