A former Dallas Cowboys defensive end said the team and Dak Prescott are trying to “quell” one of the bigger stories of last week’s dead period news cycle. Sharp bettors tanked the Cowboys under/over win total based on the belief that Prescott’s injury could further hurt a weak roster in the upcoming season.
Photos of Prescott wearing a walking boot appeared online on Independence Day. Multiple reports confirmed that Prescott suffered a sprained foot.
Dak Prescott says there’s nothing wrong with his foot
As previously discussed on GH, Prescott told reporters on Tuesday that he wore the boot for precautionary reasons but stressed nothing is currently wrong:
“I’m great. Honestly, I’m getting older. It’s the same ankle that I snapped and had surgery on four years ago,” Prescott said. “So a couple of hard days of training, and you get a little sore, and then you go on a fishing trip, and you want to protect it and make sure things don’t get worse.
“Literally, it’s absolutely nothing. People are reaching, trying to make things that they aren’t. I’m getting older and having to take care of my body and be smart. If I have to take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I’ll do it. Sorry that it caused such a whirlwind.”
Chris Canty isn’t buying Prescott’s story
Former Cowboys defensive end Chris Canty is buying Prescott’s explanation. The co-host of Unsportsmanlike with Cohen, Canty, and Michelle said on his radio show Wednesday that Prescott flagged the NFL world that something was wrong when he decided to wear a walking boot.
It’s not commonplace to just be walking around, gimping around in a walking boot, Canty said. “That doesn’t happen. That’s not a thing.
“Taping your ankles is precaution. That’s a precaution. Wearing a walking boot says something happened. Now, I don’t know what that something is, and maybe there’s plenty of time for him to heal up and get it 100 percent before training camp.”
Are the Dallas Cowboys trying to quell panic?
Canty believes the Cowboys and Prescott are downplaying the injury.
“But wearing a walking boot, especially on a vacation, that is intentional,” Canty said. “And that’s telling you there’s something that’s going on here. And Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are trying to quell somthing that would otherwise be a massive story on the eve of training camp.”
Canty has some knowledge of how the PR machine works in Dallas. He played for the Cowboys for four seasons after they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2005 draft.
Prescott and the Cowboys have weeks before they have to release an injury report or allow the media to view how their quarterback is moving in practice. They can hide information about Prescott’s injury until then if there’s an injury to report at the time.
