At the shelter, we understand that life can throw unexpected curveballs that completely change everything. Jobs are lost, homes fall apart, families fall apart, and relationships fail. Fortunately, we witness the collateral damage caused by these events firsthand.

As an open-admission shelter in our country, we open our doors to all animals that cross our path. Pet emergencies are a direct result of life-changing circumstances. However, we ask just a few things of our community. We ask that you try to keep your pets first and consider the shelter as a last resort. We encourage you to reach out to local rescues for help. Providing accurate descriptions of your animals helps find them the right home. And most of all, we ask for hope, because we understand how difficult it can be to part with a beloved pet.

Meet Kape, a sweet and affectionate four-year-old dog who came to our shelter two months ago as a stray. He was microchipped, and through the microchip, we found his registered owner. When we contacted her, she revealed that she had recently gotten divorced and moved out of state, leaving Kape with her ex-husband. She provided us with all the information we needed. We were hopeful of remarrying Kape back to his owner until we realized that it was his owner who had left him as a stray.

Kape became collateral damage and any of his owners were hoping to claim him. Surprisingly, this hasn’t changed anything about Kape’s spirit. He is generally happy, his face lighting up with attention. He is affectionate, good with other dogs, and amazing with people. Weighing in at 40 pounds, he is small but strong and muscular. Kane is handsome and gentle. Despite spending 64 days at the shelter, he has received very little attention from anyone outside of the staff and volunteers.

Even though he’s given up, Kape hasn’t given up on love. We believe there’s someone out there for Kape – a home with the right heart. Someone who won’t take this sweet dog for granted and will value the lifelong commitment of pet ownership. Everyone who meets Kape and spends time with him recognizes his longing for love. He doesn’t crave treats or toys – he simply seeks out cuddles and hugs. Kape looks forward to spending his time on your lap, enjoying the warm drink, accompanied by kind words and gentle smiles.

Can you imagine Kape as part of your family? Are you willing to open your heart and home to this adorable dog? Let us know if you are interested or have any questions. Your support and compassion make all the difference in Kape’s life. Together, we can find him the loving home he truly deserves.
