According to the TASS agency, during the trade fair “Army 2022”, the Russian arms concern “Rosoboronexport” was supposed to present a version of the main battle tank T-14 “Armata” intended for export.
Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev announced at IDEX 2021 that “about six countries” have expressed interest in the T-14 tank based on the Armata combat platform. However, no official order has been received for it so far.
The T-14 MBT was officially presented for the first time on 7 May 2015 during the May dress rehearsal of the Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow. This debut was not very successful – one T-14 in the parade stopped in front of the central stand due to a breakdown. Later, the defective tank was withdrawn and on May 9, during the main celebrations, the tank passed through Red Square without problems.
New version
The Russian T-14 Armata tank was designed in a completely new design with an unmanned and lightly armored turret and a heavily armored hull, with the main emphasis on maximizing the survivability of the crew. In addition, according to the official data of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the armor penetration achieved by the T-14 Armata should be almost twice that of other latest Russian MBT models currently in use, such as the T-72B3M, T-80BWM, or T-90M.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation signed the first contract for the serial supply of the T-14 Armata MBT and heavy infantry fighting vehicles based on its chassis during the International Military-Technical Forum “Army 2018” with the UWZ concern.
A total of 132 vehicles of both types were to be delivered, but to date, only about 20 pre-production vehicles are in service with the Russian army.
