The strange ancient creature was found in a diamond mine under the sand in Udachny, Yakutia region, Russia. The miners who found the creature’s body believe it to be an unrecorded dinosaur, the Siberian Times reported yesterday.
However, experts are uncertain and need more time to carefully study this creature dating from the Mesozoic period 66-252 million years ago. One theory they put forward is that the animal was a wolf, a carnivorous mammal that resembles a small bear. It will be moved from Udachny to the capital Yakutsk for further study.
The diamond mine in Udachnaya was discovered in 1955 and mining operations began in the 1960s. In 1974, a 1.7 kiloton atomic bomb was detonated at a depth of 98 m underground, creating a bed large pan to build dams containing waste from diamond mines.
