“These delightful Taiwan Barwing (Actinodura morrisoniana) usually allow a close approach.
They are often in flocks of 5-6 birds, foraging together or with other birds; in this case with White-eared Sibias (Heterophasia auricularis). They are omnivorous and are mainly noted to feed on insects, invertebrates, berries and seeds (HBW 2019, Avifauna of Taiwan, 2nd edition).
“On this occasion we saw them feed extensively on nectar (not mentioned in sources). You can see the һeаⱱіɩу pollen stained base of beaks in the close-up (above).
“The plant they are feeding on is Prunus campanulata, a ѕрeсіeѕ of cherry native to Japan and Taiwan (Taiwan Cherry, Formosan Cherry, Bellflower Cherry), which was in full bloom during the winter.”
