It’s fitting that Prescott and Allen are so close together on the list because they are among the most polarizing quarterbacks in the league right now.
While the general opinion on both is that they are among the best players in the NFL, their flaws attract a lot of scrutiny. Prescott’s playoff shortcomings could be used as a major sticking point for the Cowboys as they decide whether or not to sign him to a new contract.
Allen is the one quarterback whose high moments can reasonably compare to Patrick Mahomes. The difference is the Bills star is occasionally prone to committing some of the worst turnovers you will see in any given season.
Prescott and Allen both finished in the top five in MVP voting last season. Allen has three top-five MVP finishes in the past four seasons.
Jalen Hurts being ranked ahead of Prescott coming off the 2023 campaign is a bit strange. He regressed in virtually every key category from 2022, with the exception of rushing touchdowns. He and Allen were tied with 15 rushing touchdowns last year, breaking the previous record for a quarterback held by Cam Newton (14 in 2011).
C.J. Stroud cracking the top 20 in his first appearance on the top 100 is impressive. The Houston Texans star threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and had the lowest interception rate in the league (1.0 percent) on 499 pass attempts.
Fresh off becoming the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history, Justin Jefferson was voted the 18th-best player in the league by his fellow players. The Minnesota Vikings star averaged a career-high 107.4 receiving yards per game, but he was limited to 10 appearances because of a hamstring injury.
The additions of Fred Warner and George Kittle to the rankings mean the San Francisco 49ers now have seven players in the top 100, including five in the top 30. That group doesn’t include Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams, who would seem likely to be in the top 10 when it is announced on Thursday.
