Olinguito - a mammal belonging to the raccoon family - is the first carnivore discovered in the Western Hemisphere since the 1970s. In 2013, a researcher discovered a decades-old specimen of a small carnivore labeled an olingo at the Chicago Field Museum. Because the specimen had a similar shape to an olingo but was smaller in size, the research team went into the jungles of Ecuador to find this animal. The thick-tailed pygmy lemur or Cheirogaleus medius is smaller than a squirrel. This is the only primate that hibernates for a long period of time.
