My birthday is today, but nobody sent me a wish, which makes me really sad and sorry. They believe me to be a worthless dog. ‎

On his birthday, Rocky Road, a resilient Pit Bull, received the best gift of all – a second chance at life. His journey began on February 2, 2012, when Animal Control responded to a distress call in the 600 block of Andover Road in Linthicum. A concerned citizen reported an injured Pit Bull, and upon arrival, the Animal Control Officer found Rocky Road, a dog in severe pain, struggling to move but still seeking affection.

Back at the shelter, staff and supervisors quickly assessed Rocky’s condition. The extent of his injuries indicated that he had likely been used as a “bait dog,” suffering brutal attacks to train other dogs for fighting. Despite his pain, Rocky’s spirit shone through, captivating the hearts of everyone who met him.

Recognizing the urgency of his situation, Animal Control reached out to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. In a heartwarming act of kindness, the hospital offered to treat Rocky pro bono. On February 3, 2012, Rocky underwent surgery to address his severe injuries. The operation was successful, and Rocky’s condition stabilized, beginning his long road to recovery.

Rocky Road’s story did not end with his surgery. Tara’s House, a private non-profit rescue group, stepped in, promising to find Rocky a loving forever home once he was medically ready. The dedicated staff at Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital provided him with continuous care, ensuring he received the best possible support during his recovery.

Today, as we celebrate Rocky Road’s birthday, we honor his incredible journey from pain to hope. His story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the profound impact of compassion and kindness. Rocky’s birthday symbolizes a new beginning, filled with love, care, and the promise of a brighter future.

Happy Birthday, Rocky Road! Your courage and spirit inspire us all.
