Marc Stein reported, “Trade talks tend to be fluid this time of year and can be easily sparked up again, but one source briefed on the talks termed the idea of Murray landing with the Lakers before the deadline, as of this Sunday, as ‘unrealistic.’ Among the factors for that: D’Angelo Russell’s strong play this month.”

It’s not merely the Lakers’ reluctance to part ways with D’Angelo Russell that’s causing complications; it’s also Russell’s recent surge in performance that has breathed new life into the team.

Over the past few weeks, Russell has been on fire, providing the Lakers with a glimpse of what their future could look like if he continues to deliver consistent shooting and production.

Nevertheless, there still appears to be some lingering uncertainty and distrust in Russell’s ability to maintain this level of play over the long term, which could influence the Lakers’ decision-making process.
