Jokic got a big smile out of James early in Saturday’s game.
The Los Angeles Lakers dropped a crucial game to their Western Conference foes, the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets have had the Laker’s number for some time now, and Saturday’s contest was no different.
Although the Lakers dropped their 29th game of the season, it was still a special night due to LeBron James becoming the first player in NBA history to break the 40,000-point mark.
No one has ever accomplished that, and no one may ever in our lifetimes.
However, before breaking the 40K point mark, James got a good laugh from Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic.
James was mic’d up during Saturday’s game, and Jokic told the NBA’s leading scorer that they would hold him to eight points. James needed nine to get 40K points.
Jokic may not be very vocal, but he sure has some jokes under his sleeve.
Of course, James broke the 40K point mark early in the second quarter in the left-handed driving layup on Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr.
Although that was a monumental moment for James and the Lakers, they couldn’t finish it with a win.
For the eighth straight time, the Nuggets beat the Lakers, dating back to the 2022-2023 season.
The four-time MVP finished the game with 26 points to lead his team, nine assists and four rebounds in 37 minutes of action.
It may not have been the result he wanted, but breaking that record is something James, Lakers and NBA fans will never forget.
