Kamala Harris uses Taylor Swift’s music for her election campaign
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris ended her debate with Donald Trump with Taylor Swift’s song “The Man”.
The Man is part of Taylor Swift’s seventh album – Lover – released in 2019. With a feminist theme, the song criticizes the social double standards that favor men. In the MV, the singer born in 1989 plays a rich, white man with many bad habits but is still praised by everyone. Forbes considers this the most important song on the album, reflecting the gender discrimination that women face every day.
Kamala Harris used Taylor Swift’s music after the singer endorsed her, calling the candidate a “warrior for what is right” on Instagram the same day. Swift wrote: “I think this woman is a strong, talented leader and believe our country can achieve so much more when it is led by calm instead of chaos.”
She also said she would vote for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for vice president. The singer said she was “heartbroken and impressed” that Harris chose Walz as her running mate because of his efforts for LGBTQ+ rights, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and “women’s right to choose their own bodies,” referring to abortion rights.
Responding to Taylor Swift, Tim Walz thanked the singer in a live interview on MSNBC . He said: “First of all, I am so grateful to her. Her words were so eloquent and clear. This is the courage that the American people need.”
Taylor Swift speaks out for the first time about the 2024 White House race. The artist is usually cautious about political issues, limiting the expression of her personal views. With a large fan base, her stance attracts a lot of attention. According to the Hollywood Reporter , political analysts assess that Taylor Swift’s voting decision “could play a key role” in influencing the election results. Previously, she supported Mr. Joe Biden and Ms. Kamala Harris in the 2020 election campaign, marking the first time the singer publicly supported a presidential candidate.
