James Washington, a wide receiver who has largely been absent from the NFL field since suffering a foot fracture, is vigorously working out in hopes of making a comeback. The 28-year-old’s recent campaign on social media, specifically an Instagram video showcasing his extensive training regimen, has signaled his readiness to return to professional football.
Through a collection of clips featuring his rigorous training – from sprinting and catching to weightlifting – Washington has made his intentions clear. “I was forgotten about, and I want to show the world that I still have it,” he stated, aiming to defy those who may have written him off after a significant period away from the game due to his injury.
Determined to prove his doubters wrong, Washington, who did not play in 2023 and barely saw the field in 2022, is currently engaging in a five-day-a-week training schedule. He is convinced that he still has a lot to contribute to the sport.
“People say, ‘Oh, he’s done. He’s washed.’
There’s still a lot of meat left on the bone,” he assured, emphasizing his improved physical condition and strength.
Washington’s professional journey began with promise when he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the draft. Over four seasons with the Steelers, he accumulated 114 catches for 1,629 yards and secured 11 touchdowns. His shift to the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 was marred by a training camp injury to his right foot, which significantly limited his playtime to just two games and 15 offensive snaps, during which he did not make any catches.
Despite a challenging couple of years that saw him move from practice squads to attempting to secure a spot on active rosters—with stints at the New York Giants’ practice squad before the 2022 postseason and later, unsuccessful camp trials with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts—Washington’s resolve appears unwavering.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Washington’s efforts might soon pay off, as he has reportedly drawn “multiple inquiries” from NFL teams, signaling potential tryouts in the near future. With his determined spirit and ongoing training, Washington aims to reignite his career and demonstrate his enduring value to the league.
