Dog Josephine, also known as “Pheenie,” was left behind after her owner was deported. She found shelter behind a shipping container in a junkyard, which offered minimal protection from the heat and rain. For nine lonely years, she survived by eating scraps and crumbs given to her by the villagers. But time finally caught up with her.
As a result of prolonged stress and neglect, Pheenie’s health had declined by the time he became an older dog. She had been hit by a truck and lost her right eye, in addition to suffering from a spinal cord infection, worsening dental problems, a urinary tract infection, and many painful breast tumors.
This terrible film follows the Hope For Paws volunteers as they try to help Pheenie out of her lonely existence. Despite the difficulty of the procedure, Pheenie finally recognized that someone had finally arrived to save her in her golden years. Her relief was evident as she hugged her rescuer, a dejected expression on her face.
Pheenie was placed in a permanent foster care program to meet her increasing medical demands. For 5 beautiful months, she enjoyed a happy, pampered, carefree life on the huge farm of her foster home until she died of old age. Despite her unfortunate life of scarcity and seclusion, Pheenie’s final days were filled with overwhelming love. Rest in peace, Pheenie.
