In the video, titled “Freedom,” President Biden reiterates his 2020 campaign message of fighting for the “soul of America,” uniting the country and supporting the middle class, the Biden campaign said.
In the video, Mr. Biden frames his re-election bid next year as “a fight against Republican extremism.” The video opens with footage of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we were in a battle for the soul of America. And we’re still in it. The question we face is whether we’ll have more freedom or less freedom in the years ahead. More rights or fewer rights. I know what I want the answer to be, and I think you do too. This is no time for complacency. That’s why I’m running for re-election,” Biden said in the video.
“Every generation of Americans faces a moment when they must defend democracy,” Mr. Biden continued. “Stand up for our individual liberties. Stand up for our voting rights and our civil rights.”

The April 25 re-election announcement also included details about Mr. Biden’s campaign leadership team, which includes Senators Tammy Duckworth and Chris Coons, Representatives Lisa Blunt-Rochester, Jim Clyburn and Veronica Escobar, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. All of them will serve as co-chairs of Mr. Biden’s campaign.
According to the White House, Mr. Biden will emphasize his economic agenda in a speech on April 25.
Vice President Kamala Harris also issued a statement, calling the 2024 presidential election “a pivotal moment in our history.”
“Over the past two years, we have made transformational investments to build a nation where everyone can be safe and healthy, find a good job, and retire with dignity,” Harris applauded, while criticizing “Republicans as extremists.”
