LeBron James and the LA Lakers had a tough time at the free-throw line against the Phoenix Suns, only getting eight attempts throughout the game, a season-low.
Understandably, James wasn”t too pleased about it when he spoke after the game. But Andrew Bogut, someone who knows a thing or two about competing against LeBron, wasn”t exactly sympathetic toward the Lakers” struggles.
The Lakers managed to make four out of their eight free throws, shooting at a mediocre 50.0% from the line, while the Suns had a stellar 94.7% success rate, going 18-for-19.
The difference in free-throw attempts, just 11, might not seem like a huge deal at first glance. However, it was the first time this season that the Lakers found themselves with such a low number of attempts.
Digging a bit deeper, according to StatMuse, this was the Lakers” lowest free-throw attempt count in a game since December 29, 2021, when they also had eight attempts against the Memphis Grizzlies. When this stat was shared on social media, Bogut didn”t hold back, suggesting that maybe the referees should be benched for putting the Lakers at a disadvantage.
“The NBA has suspended the referees effective immediately,” Bogut tweeted, adding a touch of sarcasm to the situation.
It”s worth noting that Bogut and James have a history on the court, particularly from the 2015 and 2016 NBA Finals where they faced off against each other.
In 2015, Bogut”s Warriors came out on top, defeating James” Cavaliers 4-2. But James got his revenge the following year, leading the Cavs to a historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship.
Bogut”s Sunday tweet indicates that old rivalries die hard, and he might not be the biggest fan of LeBron and his current Lakers squad.
