This poor dog was in terrible condition. Someone had intentionally cut off the lower part of his right leg.

A group of rescuers from the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary searched for him several times but could not locate him. When they finally located him, he had practically given up and seemed to be waiting to die.

The journalist said some people had been throwing stones at him when he arrived looking for food. We can only understand the pain and suffering he endured.

Just trying to survive.

They took him to the vet to assess the extent of his injuries. His son was full of holes from the stones that were thrown at him. There was no way to save his limb but he was too weak to operate.

Ten days later, the dog named Matty was sent blood for testing and the results indicate that he has very low levels of red blood cells and hemoglobin due to blood loss and infection.

Dr Riv said: “His survival is not yet guaranteed as we have to balance the risk of surgery with the risk of infection from the necrotic tissue in the leg. “We are doing everything we can to restore his blood to a normal level and also treat any infections that arise.”

Day 22, Matty is gaining more strength and confidence. His blood counts have improved, but not to the desired level. However, his leg is becoming more necrotic every day, so it will have to be amputated.

Almost 3 months later, Matty is adopted by a new family. He is thriving in his new home with Blake and has a lot of love to give. It’s notable how loving he is about the cruel treatment he endured at the hands of humans before being rescued.
