Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made a pitch to voters at home Thursday night: Pick the tougher leader.
“Why wouldn’t we choose the leader that’s tough, tested and a total badass,” Gretchen said.
“Like women across America, we just GST — Get Stuff Done,” she said.
Whitmer, for a brief period, was considered as a possible replacement for President Joe Biden when he dropped out of the 2024 race, but she repeatedly said she was not interested in running and quickly rallied around Kamala Harris.
Whitmer, Democratic governor of a purple state who is also a co-chair of Harris’ campaign, and took direct shots at Donald Trump saying that Trump has referred to her as “that woman,” as an attack.
“Donald Trump doesn’t know you. At all,” she said. “You think he understands that when your car breaks down you can’t get to work? No! His first word was probably ‘chauffeur.’ You think he’s ever had to take items out of the cart before checking out? Hell, you think he’s even been to a grocery store? That’s what the chauffeur is for!”
“Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria joined the stage with a reminder that if elected, Kamala Harris would be the first female president of the United States.
It’s a history-making factor that has been largely absent from Democratic speeches this week, a big contrast from Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.
“In the Latino community we have a saying. ‘Si se puede.’ It means ‘yes we can,’” Longoria said. “Tonight, I am here to tell you, yes she can.” She added, “When somebody asks if she’s going to be the first female president of the United States, we are going to say, ‘she se puede.’”
