Watt bats for college football style overtime after Rams vs Lions Week 1 thriller
J. J. Watt has ended his affiliation with the NFL, but the three-time Defensive Player of The Year still follows the league closely – especially as his brother, Pittsburgh Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt, is every bit as good as the older one.

As another NFL season kicks off without J. J. playing, he has lots of free time to watch the games. The first Sunday Night Football of the season was a thrilling contest between the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams, which was decided in overtime.

The Lions won the game without the Rams having possession in overtime, and J. J. Watt gave his view on the current format and asked for changes – particularly, he wants to see the college football style getting adopted by the NFL:

“Yeah, it was obviously a great game. I’m with you. I don’t know if you’re on my side or not, but I want overtime to be changed. It’s got to be different. I’m personally a big fan of college overtime. I know there are people out there that don’t love it and don’t want it in the NFL, but I just think it’s so much more exciting, so much more fun.”
In college football overtime rules, every team starts their drives from the 25-yard line and is guaranteed at least one possession. It’s a much more fair method than the current one employed by the NFL.

J. J. Watt’s quality was basically unmatched in his prime
J. J. Watt was a dominant force in the league back in the day. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year three times during his first five seasons, and he was unstoppable back then. In 2014, the second time he won the award, there was a real discussion about whether he deserved to be named MVP instead of Aaron Rodgers.

Injuries derailed his career and he was never able to return to his best level, but as the old saying goes, streets won’t forget how good he was. His brother is still keeping the family name alive, and he has also won himself a Defensive Player of the Year award.
