Coming off a disastrous playoff elimination, the Dallas Cowboys are swamped up in a major crisis in terms of signing all three of its star players Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons, with two of them likely to be playing their last season with the team. However, it would be quite tough for the franchise considering the salary cap situation, not to mention their reluctance to pay the star players.
While speaking on the subject, former Cowboys star Charles Haley provided a solution to owner Jerry Jones to get out of the current contract mess, while saying he is “screwed.” The Hall of Fame defensive end emphasized what many experts have been saying for the Cowboys to let go of quarterback Prescott, in his recent appearance on the Up & Adams podcast.
Jerry Jones kept backloading everything, so now he's screwed. So, now the bill came due and he doesn't have the money to be able to do that. So, what he's gonna have to do is find another way around the salary cap or push a lot of older guys' salary way back.Charles Haley said
Haley advised Jones to trade star quarterback Prescott claiming he would be signed immediately after entering the free agency. Given that the quarterback is expected to land at least $55 million to remain with the Cowboys they will have only $67.5 million in salary cap besides $10 million this season.
Can Cowboys keep All-Pro trio of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons?
If Prescott signed the lucrative deal with the Cowboys, they would be risking losing two other star players Lamb and Parsons, which would be a major loss. Regardless, there is no scenario in which the Cowboys will be able to retain all three of its star players.
Though Haley shared that ideally, he wants the Cowboys to keep all three of its star players, especially the duo of Prescott and Lamb as it resembled Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin‘s iconic duo in the franchise’s dynasty era.
The good thing as for now is that the franchise has the time of around two years to sort all these contract situations, the urgency is only regarding star wide receiver Lamb’s deal considering he intends to hold out until he receives a deserving deal.
