It is known that the couple McManis and Chad Schatz started adopting Wolfgang in May 2019 from the Arizona Beagle Rescue organization, Arizona, USA. At that time, Wolfgang was already a chubby dog. The couple has no information about Wolfgang’s previous owner or why this dog could be so fat, but they have a lot of experience in adopting dogs and helping them lose weight.
The veterinarian diagnosed Wolfgang with thyroid disease and gave the animal a prescription that required the dog to only take in 600 calories a day. McManis is in charge of preparing Wolfgang’s meals with lean chicken and fresh vegetables. Even though he has to follow a strict diet, this dog is still very obedient and does not ask for anything extra between meals. McManis believes the amount of vegetables helped the animal feel fuller longer.
The McManis also encouraged Wolfgang to exercise. At first, the animal could only walk from his house to the mailbox next door, but he became more and more determined.
When summer came and the weather in Arizona became hot, the McManis and their husbands could not walk Wolfgang much during the day, so they took advantage of the morning and evening hours. Wolfgang also loves to play in the family’s swimming pool. McManis said the animal prefers to float on the surface of the lake rather than exercise.
Every week, Wolfgang regularly visits the veterinarian’s office to use the underwater treadmill, where the animal can walk about 20 minutes at a time.
Since starting to lose weight in May until now, Wolfgang has lost 12.7kg and his current weight is only 28.1kg. Her slim body makes everyone gasp, unable to believe their eyes. Wolfgang’s entire weight loss process is posted on the Instagram account @obese_beagle, with more than 63 thousand followers. The animal’s target weight is more than 11kg.
