Davante Adams trade news: Derek Carr eyes reunion at Saints amid WR’s trade rumors
Superstar wide receiver Davante Adams is hunting for a new team and the Las Vegas Raiders are willing to facilitate a move to get his salary off their books. He joined the team in the 2022 offseason to play with his college teammate and good friend Derek Carr, who was cut a year later. However, the quarterback, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints, is open to a reunion.
During his media availability on Thursday, Carr was asked about the Saints potentially trading for Adams. He replied:
“I think all 32 quarterbacks would love to play with Davante. We would welcome that. I don’t know if I can get in trouble for saying that. I just think everyone kind of knows that … I think everyone would love to play with Tay. I would obviously welcome playing with him again if that ever worked out in our careers.”
The quarterback added that their sole season together in 2022 is viewed as a failure due to the Raiders’ 6-11 record. However, he pointed out that Adams had the second-best year of his career with Carr under center.
The wide receiver finished the 2022 campaign with 1,516 yards and 14 touchdown catches — the second-highest mark of his career in both categories. The Saints star isn’t the only one keen on a reunion.
Davante Adams trade: WR opens to Saints or Jets move
On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reported that Davante Adams would be open to joining the Saints or the New York Jets to reunite with either Derek Carr or Aaron Rodgers.
“Two teams high on Davante Adams’ wishlist of places to land – if not at the very top – are the Jets and Saints, per league sources,” Schefter wrote on X. “Adams ideally would like to play with a QB he knows. The Jets have former teammate Aaron Rodgers, and the Saints have former teammate Derek Carr.”
The Raiders are reportedly asking for a second-round draft pick and additional compensation for Adams, a modest price for a premium playmaker. However, any team trading for the wide receiver will have to absorb a $16.9 million salary cap hit, which is likely proving to be a hindrance in most franchise’s pursuit of the superstar.
It remains to be seen whether the Saints or Jets pull the trigger and make a move for the veteran or another contender adds him to their ranks.
