Despite the heated competition and rivalry between teams during the season, the players are all good friends who love to hang around and enjoy playing the game. The off-season is a time where players hold their training camps and in recent years, none has garnered as much as hype as the ‘Tight End University’.
Founded in 2021 by some of the best TEs in the NFL—George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Greg Olsen—it aims to unite their community together in a three-day program. This year, tight-end U was organized in Nashville, Kentucky. A welcome presence at the program was none other than Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
He was busy bonding with his peers and was practicing throwing to the tight ends. In the midst of this, he made sure to give the position players their props.
Tight ends, you got to know the offense, every part of it. I would say, I challenge you; you've got the run game, pass protections, all that. The next step is truly knowing what your quarterback is thinking when he's throwing you the ball, because you guys are a quarterback's best friend.Dak Prescott per Stephen Holder of ESPN
He also pointed out that tight ends are essential allies for quarterbacks, especially when making plays across the middle of the field to exploit outside matchups. If the quarterback and tight ends aren’t in sync, their chances of executing successful plays diminish significantly.
Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker also attended Tight End U
Dallas Cowboys tight ends Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker were also in attendance at the program. Prescott spent an interactive session with the youngsters while practicing throw and caught.
Prescott got the compliments spot on about the tight end position. It is arguably one of the hardest to play in football. A player at the position must be dynamic, has to perform as an elite receiver and know the offense in-depth. In addition to this, he is required to block and play an all-around game.
Tight ends have evolved over the years in football, from a position that meant virtually nothing more than a mere blocker in the 1980s, they have morphed into gamechangers in today’s game. The likes of Travis Kelce and George Kittle continue to demonstrate the importance of the tight end position for an offense.
Dak Prescott understands the impact that a tight end can have on the team. He played alongside Jason Witten, one of the best tight ends in Cowboys history. This year’s tight end U focused on film study, on-field drills, recovery, rehabilitation, and more. For more information on the program, check out their official site.
