Designer Rey Ortiz took several months to make the sexy outfit for Cardi B’s performance at the 2021 Grammys.
Rey Ortiz – who has created many unique outfits for female rappers – shares the story of the process of assembling heavy metal into sexy performance costumes: “Cardi’s stylist Kollin Carter said they needed an impressive metal outfit for the Grammy Awards. It had to be sexy, comfortable, and she could dance easily while wearing it.”
The male designer took Cardi’s acrobatic dance moves into account and took several months to complete the order. “Ten hours before show time, we were tasked with making this project run smoothly by continuing to edit without affecting the design,” Rey revealed. He called his result “a painful, heavy but sexy nightmare”.
Rey Ortiz’s efforts have certainly paid off. His passionate work helped Cardi B’s image on stage receive great praise, with many fashion fans even voting this as the best outfit at the 2021 Grammys.
