As soon (SRSL) staff received a picture of a dog in need the other day, their hearts sank. The pup was lying on a pile of lumber, and only four words accompanied the picture.
“‘Dog shot, needs help,’” SRSL wrote on Facebook. “Cassady didn’t take a breath before she said, ‘Bring me that baby.’”
The rescuers knew she was hurt but wouldn’t know the extent of her injuries until they’d reach SRSL’s veterinary hospital. Still, the team was optimistic that she would pull through.
SRSL’s veterinary team welcomed the dog, later named Propeller, with open arms. They immediately assessed her wounds and discovered that her injury wasn’t as serious as it could’ve been. While there was shrapnel lodged in her leg, it’d missed her knee joint, vital organs and spine.
Thankfully, Propeller’s injuries were easily treatable and wouldn’t affect her in the long run. She soon underwent emergency surgery to remove the object from her leg, which she recovered from smoothly.
“[T]his gunshot victim is sooo lucky to not have lasting injuries,” SRSL wrote. “[T]his pup certainly has a guardian angel.”
“She’s about 2 years old and a total love bug,” SRSL wrote.
It’s been a month since Propeller’s rescue, and she’s finally feeling like herself again. Since her surgery, Propeller’s regained her ability to walk and run — and she now spends her days playing with her friends at the shelter.
As much as Propeller loves hanging out at SRSL, she’s more than ready to find a forever home. The team at SRSL hopes to find her a home with comfy beds, sunny spots to nap in and parents who shower her with loving affirmations.
Propeller’s friends are confident she’ll land the perfect home soon. Until then, they’ll keep enjoying their time with the sweet miracle girl.
“THIS dog here is the epitome of love,” SRSL wrote on Facebook. “She is kind, she is gracious and so perfect [and] easy-going.”
