WNBA star Caitlin Clark continues to have a standout freshman season, with the Indiana Fever player setting another record for the league.

During a 92-75 win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Aug. 18, Clark, 22, officially set a new WNBA rookie assist record, according to the New York Times.

Per the outlet, Clark broke Ticha Penicheiro’s previous record of 225 assists in 30 games for the Sacramento Monarchs in 1998 — a feat the Fever player reached in two games less during her 28th game of the season.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Penicheiro congratulated Clark on breaking her record, writing: “Records are meant to be broken…it shows growth and evolution. Can’t think of a better player to break it!!”

Back in July, Clark finished a game with 19 assists, besting Courtney Vandersloot’s previous league record of 18 in a single game, set in 2020.

The basketball star also had 24 points in what ended in a 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings.

“I mean, I just try to set my teammates up for success,” Clark said at a post-game press conference, per ClutchPoints. “I think at times I can almost over-pass, and there probably could have been a few times where instead of passes that lead to turnovers that I may have, I can probably shoot the ball.”

The Iowa product’s most recent accomplishment adds to the discussion about whether she could win Rookie of the Year. Going into the game, Clark had scored or assisted on 41.8% or 849 of the Fever’s points this season, according to ESPN’s Rebecca Lobo.
