Whether call it inspiration from Brandon Aiyuk or his frustration with the Dallas Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb is not going to participate in his team’s training camp, starting on July 25. Despite posting a Pro Bowl season in 2023, the star wide receiver has been neglected by the Cowboys in offering an extension, while they focus on trivial matters.
Both Aiyuk and Lamb are in the same boat, but the difference is the San Francisco 49ers have repeatedly assured that offering an extension to the No. 2 wideout is a priority for them, while the Cowboys have remained utterly silent on the contract situation of their No. 1 receiver.
Lamb is already subjected to a huge fine of more than $100,000 for missing the Cowboys’ mandatory mini-camp, and now with the reports of him missing the team’s entire training camp, he is likely to be imposed with more fines. Dallas Morning News’s Calvin Watkins confirmed that unless the star receiver’s contract situation is sorted, he is not expected to report to training camp, in Oxnard, California.
For the second consecutive year, there’s a possibility a key starter will hold out of training camp. Lamb missed the entire offseason program and is expected to miss training camp if he doesn’t get a new deal.Calvin Watkins reported
Lamb is set to earn $18 million in the upcoming season under his fifth-year option, picked by the Cowboys last season on his rookie contract. With proper negotiation and 1,749 stats last season, Lamb may land up to $30 million in his new deal–similar to Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown’s new deal.
Cowboys should prioritize extending CeeDee Lamb over Dak Prescott
At present, the Cowboys have two contract extensions in urgency for their star players, Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. Though the franchise has been in negotiation with Prescott, many believe it should be the receiver who should be prioritized.
In a recent appearance on All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson, Cowboys safety Malik Hooker claimed that Lamb’s extension should be prioritized above Prescott and Zack Martin.
I think CeeDee should be paid first for the simple fact that what he does for us, how valuable he is for us, the leader he is for us as a team.Malik Hooker said
After posting a season of 135 catches for 1,749 yards, and 14 touchdowns in 17 games, Lamb has indeed entered his prime years, with a score pointer of 19.7. That is to say, if the Cowboys didn’t sign him and he entered the free agency market in 2025, it wouldn’t take him long to be signed by another team.
