The actual pro-am event kicks off the day after Clark is in action, with round One beginning on Thursday for amateurs and professionals. Amateurs playing in the competition won’t be able to claim any prize money either.
This is down to the United States Golf Association (USGA) rulebook, as per section three: “An amateur playing in a scratch competition is allowed to accept any prize, including prize money, up to a limit of £700 or US$1000 in value, per competition, unless the national governing body has set a lower limit.”
The rule made headlines earlier this year when it prevented 20-year-old University student Nick Dunlap from claiming the £1.15m ($1.5m) prize for winning the American Express event on the PGA Tour.
Meanwhile, during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am event last year, Essentially Sports reported that all 37 celebrities that took part in the tournament donated any money they received to charitable sources.
