Patrick Mahomes sends 5-word message to daughter Sterling before MNF clash vs Saints
Defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs were in primetime action in Week 5 as they hosted the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was keen on getting his season back on track after a difficult outing against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP accidentally left wide receiver Rashee Rice with a potentially season-ending LCL injury while trying to tackle Chargers defensive back Khristian Fulton as he attempted to take an interception to the house for a pick-6.
Mahomes is yet to break the 250-yard mark as a passer in the Chiefs’ first four games this season, an uncharacteristic run for the two-time MVP. While he was clamoring for a massive performance against the Saints to end the chatter around his less-than-ideal start to the campaign, he wasn’t keen on his daughter Sterling watching it.
During his pre-game interview with ESPN, he sent a message to her, saying:
“Hey Sterling, go to bed.”
Patrick Mahomes’ stats vs. Saints: QB has his best game of the season
After asking his daughter to hit the bed, Patrick Mahomes delivered an incredible performance in the Chiefs’ comfortable 26-13 win over the Saints on Monday Night Football.
The quarterback completed 28 of his 39 pass attempts for 331 yards, his most prolific game as a passer this season. He also rushed for 22 yards on six carries, which includes his stellar nine-yard scramble, where he managed to shake off three Saints defenders before diving for a first down.
His only blemish of the night was an interception he threw late in the third quarter. However, his pass was nearly perfect but wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster couldn’t hold on to it. The ball bounced up perfectly after hitting his hands, giving Khaleel Saunders an easy opportunity to pick it off.
While Mahomes will likely be irked about the interception, he’d be pleased with his and the offense’s performance, considering it was their first game without wide receiver Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ receiving yards leader coming into Week 5.
The sophomore star will likely miss the rest of the season, which is a huge blow to Kansas City’s offense. However, Mahomes’ magnificent display was perhaps an indication that they could cope without Rice.
