The Los Angeles Lakers look like they are headed for a disappointing end to the 2023-24 NBA season, with LeBron James and company struggling to turn things around, even though he and Anthony Davis have been relatively healthy this season.
Ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, the Lakers are expected to be one of the more active teams in the league, with Los Angeles wanting to bolster its roster for the second half of the season and a potential deep run in the NBA playoffs.
If things continue to go in the wrong direction for the Lakers, the LeBron era in Los Angeles could be coming to an end, with the superstar forward having the ability to opt-out of his contract this summer.
Along with having a player option on his deal, Bronny James will have the opportunity to enter the NBA Draft, which could sway his father to become a free agent and explore his options.
Even though LeBron seems determined to play with his son on the NBA level, Austin Rivers of ESPN doesn’t think it’s a good idea, via ESPN and ClutchPoints.
“Him getting drafted and playing with his dad, I don’t want that negativity to come his way,” Rivers said.
Rivers has a point as it could become a disaster quite quickly, especially with Bronny James not looking like he’s an NBA-ready player right now, as he’s struggled during his first season at the University of Southern California.
It’ll be interesting to see which way LeBron James chooses to go this summer and how it will impact his career as well as the Lakers moving forward.
