Blind, in pain and hungry, she resigned herself to leaving without receiving the help she needed.
There is no greater legacy than leaving the world a little better than when we arrived.
Seeing an innocent animal suffer leads hundreds of people to become rescuers of defenseless animals on the streets, or of those who are treated with disdain.
And when our hearts open to the furry ones who need someone to protect them, there is a power that drives us to save them.
One of these exceptional women, a member of the Lucky Dog Shelter in Stanford, Connecticut, United States, discovered a dog in this situation.
The furry creature named Halo was curled up on the forest floor. He looked completely lost, indicating that he was blind. He was also hungry.
Fortunately, the goodwill of this group of men and women made it possible for Halo to look forward to a new beginning in life.
Halo was in really bad shape, but with a little care, a lot of love, compassion and, yes, some McDonald’s ice cream cones, the dog recovered and began to reveal himself as he really is.
According to a local media outlet, the young animal was abandoned in the middle of the vegetation, on the ground, in a fetal position, probably waiting for death to put an end to its suffering. Its blindness was evident from the milky tone of its pupils.
One of their volunteers tried to encourage her with food so that she would get up and leave the place on her own. When she finally got up, they discovered why she was so weak: Halo was just bones and skin.
That’s why they named her Halo, because the rescue team decided that if she couldn’t be treated, they would let her rest with dignity. The fact is that she was suffering too much, clinging to life. It’s not fair to them to prolong her misery.
“We felt it wasn’t worth it for her to suffer any more than she was already enduring. If necessary, we would put her to sleep,” said one rescuer.
As if by some miracle, Halo slowly began to improve and recover, taking every opportunity to return to a normal life. She joined a foster family to begin her medical therapy.
According to Stacey, her foster mother, Halo’s health was pretty bad when she arrived, but no one at the shelter hesitated for a second to help her with whatever she needed.
Once she was ready to move, Halo leaned into Stacey, showing immense delight at experiencing human love and warmth, something she had never experienced before. Hugs, kisses, caresses and cuddles became a regular occurrence between them.
“The dog has made progress in her recovery and is a furry and lively dog, she loves to be petted and is intelligent, despite her visual impairment. “She likes to eat her favourite ice cream cones on the sofa,” said her carer.
This is great news for everyone at Animal Kingdom. We love seeing another life saved by a group of kind people committed to animal welfare. They are wonderful people!
From this platform, we aspire to contribute not only by helping young creatures on their way, but also by raising awareness so that the small actions of each one multiply and generate a global change.
Just as this little pup was transformed by the love he received as he began a new life, all other abandoned furry dogs can have a chance. Share this story with a happy ending with your friends and family.
