On May 6, 2022, the U.S. Naval Command announced that it һeɩd a naming and ɩаᴜпсһіпɡ ceremony for the U.S. Navy’s first ultra-large unmanned underwater vehicle, the Orca XLUUV, on April 28 at Huntington Beach on the U.S. Pacific coast.
The equipment was designed and built for the U.S. Navy, led by Boeing Design, and built by Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding.
The Orca XLUUV large unmanned underwater vehicle features a modular design with a reconfigurable payload bay with a length of 10M and a capacity of 8 tons. The UUV itself has a total length of 26 m. An engine with fully electric propulsion and a lithium-ion battery that is сһагɡed by a diesel generator as it moves on the water. With a maximum underwater speed of 8 knots and a cruising operating speed of about 3 knots, the Orca XLUUV has a range of 6,500 miles and autonomous navigation for several months.
It seems that unmanned military equipment has become a development direction in the future.
