When Zipper arrived at the shelter, she immediately stood out. Found wandering the streets as a stray, this 8-year-old dog wasn’t just any other rescue—her uniquely misshapen jaw gave her an unforgettable smile. Despite her distinctive appearance, Zipper’s demeanor captured the hearts of everyone at Huntsville Animal Services.
“She’s a sweet, sociable, and loving dog,” Erin Webb, a shelter volunteer, told The Dodo. “Her jaw malformation makes her smile unique, but it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She eats normally, loves treats, and doesn’t realize there’s anything unusual about her.”
The cause of Zipper’s jaw condition remains unknown, but it doesn’t slow her down. “Her teeth are very spaced apart, and she has a big bite,” Webb explained. Regardless, Zipper is as happy and playful as any other dog.
When Zipper was brought to the shelter, it was evident she hadn’t been well cared for. Likely an outdoor dog her entire life, she arrived with significant fur loss due to flea allergies and signs of having had multiple litters of puppies. Her past may have been tough, and it’s possible she was abandoned when she was no longer wanted.
But Zipper’s new family at the shelter sees her differently. They recognize her worth and are determined to help her find a loving forever home—a place where her uniqueness will be embraced and celebrated.
“She’s an older dog, so she’s quiet and incredibly sweet,” Webb shared. “She loves cuddling during car rides and enjoys spending time with other dogs.” One of her closest friends at the shelter is another senior dog named Mr. Mike. Zipper’s gentle and friendly personality also makes her great with kids, and the shelter staff believes she would thrive in many types of families.
Zipper’s past may have been challenging, but she’s ready for a brighter future. Her one-of-a-kind smile and warm personality make her unforgettable to anyone who meets her. Now, all she needs is a family to provide her the love and comfort she’s always deserved.
