A Journey of Hope: Lyme and Her Puppies Find a Happy Ending
I received an urgent call for help—a poor mother dog had given birth on the snow. Tragically, two of her puppies had frozen to death, and only two remained alive, clinging to her for warmth. The mother dog was shaking uncontrollably in the cold, using the last of her strength to keep her surviving puppies warm. It was heartbreaking. How could someone abandon them like this?
I quickly took action. I placed the two surviving puppies in my car’s back seat, leaving the door open. The mother dog, driven by her maternal instinct, jumped in to follow them. All of us—mother and puppies—were finally safe in the car. The puppies had begun nursing and were soon asleep.
The mother and her two puppies were safe and warm at last. I fed the mother dog some chicken by hand as we made our way to the vet. Once at the clinic, I named the mother dog Lyme. She was calm as her puppies continued to nurse. Tests for parvo, distemper, and coronavirus all came back negative. Lyme was tame and gentle, despite the hardships she had endured.
We stayed at the clinic overnight. I was exhausted after spending nine hours in the car, but the sight of Lyme and her puppies, safe and warm, made it all worthwhile. By morning, the puppies’ temperatures had returned to normal, and it was clear that Lyme, only about 1.5 years old, was a devoted and loving mother.
Day 2: Lyme and her puppies were transferred to foster care, where they could finally begin a new chapter of safety and comfort. They were placed under the care of Mila Astakhova, who ensured they received the best attention.
Day 3: In foster care, Lyme began to relax in the warmth of a private home. Watching her take walks and care for her puppies was deeply moving. Despite the cruelty she had faced, she remained gentle and affectionate.
Day 7: When I visited Lyme and her puppies, I saw that the little boy’s eyes had opened, while the girl’s were still closed. Lyme was proving to be a wonderful mother, nurturing her growing pups. It was hard to believe that someone had abandoned this sweet family in the freezing snow.
Day 27: Lyme’s puppies were growing quickly and had started eating on their own. They were ready for their first vaccinations, and soon, the search for their forever homes would begin.
Day 100: A joyful milestone—Lyme was adopted by a loving family in Germany! She now lives in an apartment, walks perfectly on a leash, and is adapting well to city life. Her two puppies were adopted together by another happy family in Germany, ensuring they will grow up surrounded by love.
This story of Lyme and her puppies is one of resilience, hope, and love. From surviving the freezing cold to finding warm and caring homes, they overcame the odds and now have a bright future ahead. Thank you to everyone who supported and cared for Lyme and her sweet puppies. You helped make this happy ending possible!
