Hans Flick guided Barcelona to a tough 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at home in their latest Spanish League match. Barcelona now sits atop the La Liga standings with 30 points, six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, who have 24 points. Off the field, the rivalry is heating up as Joan Laporta and Florentino Pérez vie to secure two key players that are high on their respective agendas.
According to the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional,” one target for both clubs is German defender Jonathan Tah, whose contract with Bayer Leverkusen ends in June and who reportedly does not intend to renew. Although he is a key player in Xabi Alonso’s plans, he is looking for a new challenge outside the German league, leading him to rule out Bayern Munich.
Tah is regarded as one of the top defenders in Europe, and Real Madrid aims to bolster this position, especially with David Alaba’s potential retirement due to a serious knee injury. Additionally, Jesús Vallejo is not seen as part of their future plans.
However, Barcelona appears to have the upper hand. The presence of Hans Flick as head coach could significantly influence Tah’s choice to join Barcelona over Madrid. The same sentiment applies to Jarek Gasiorowski, who has drawn interest from both clubs but seems more inclined to move to Barcelona.
Gasiorowski believes that Carlo Ancelotti does not favor young players, as demonstrated by the limited minutes given to Endrik and Arda Güler, prompting him to prefer a switch to Camp Nou. Both Tah and Gasiorowski have expressed interest in joining Barcelona, and they are anticipated to be the club’s first signings for the summer of 2025.
