A loyal dog brings food to her chained and hungry companion to keep him alive.

In a world often marked by indifference and cruelty, there are moments that shine brightly with compassion and love. The story of Milli and Mia, two sweet hearts rescued by Foster Demi and the dedicated team at Rescue Paws Curaçao (RPC), is one such heartwarming account of hope and resilience.

Demi, the rescuer, set out on her usual morning routine, not expecting that her day would take an extraordinary turn. As she made her way to work, she passed a notorious dog abandonment site, a place that had witnessed the abandonment and suffering of countless dogs. Demi herself had rescued two puppies, Milli and Mia, from this very spot just a week earlier, a testament to her unwavering commitment to these innocent souls.

Demi’s daily ritual included providing food to the packs of dogs struggling to survive in this unforgiving environment. On this particular day, she set out to find two brothers and a familiar woman who frequented the area. However, what she found was a scene of despair and helplessness.

As Demi approached a place where dogs often gathered, her heart sank. Instead of the dogs she was looking for, she found two emaciated souls, their frail bodies mere shadows of what they should be. These dogs were not familiar faces, and their desperate condition signaled that they had been recently abandoned.

What made this discovery even more heartbreaking was the presence of a heavy chain around the neck of one of the dogs, a cruel reminder of the abandonment and suffering they had endured. It was apparent that these dogs had been left to their own devices, with their chances of survival diminishing with each passing moment.

However, in the midst of this desolation, Demi noticed something extraordinary: one of the dogs, despite its own desperate situation, had brought food for its weaker companion. It was an act of loyalty and love that defied the harshness of its reality.

The sight was enough to prompt Demi to act immediately. She couldn’t bear the thought of these two dogs, already on the brink of death, falling into the wrong hands or going unnoticed. They provided them with food and water, a small glimmer of hope in their darkest hour.

Despite having to rush to work, Demi couldn’t get the images of these dogs in pain out of her mind. She shared her photos and her concerns with her colleagues, fearing that someone else might track them down and not offer them the lifelines they so desperately needed.
