In July 2020 in Arizona, two dogs were rescued from a gas station near the Mexican border. Sunshinescue, a local rescue, immediately stepped in to help the homeless animals. One of the dogs, sweet Georgia, really needed help because she was pregnant.
The dogs were living at a rural gas station near the Arizona-Mexico border. Georgia, a small shepherd mix, was rushed to the vet because of her pregnancy. After the dogs were in foster care, Georgia went into labor.
Although Georgia was rescued, her torment was not over yet. Unfortunately, on August 13th she was rushed in for an emergency C-section and spay, and quickly lost all of her puppies. What happened to Georgia was very heartbreaking. She was extremely sad, as were the volunteers and staff at the shelter.
Georgia was grieving for her babies. The vet found that her uterus had some lesions and decided to do a biopsy to see what was really going on with poor Georgia.
Luckily, Georgia was in very good hands in the meantime, the shelter had the idea that Georgia should show her motherly instincts to new, deserving lives. Georgia was taken to see three orphaned kittens who had lost their mother in childbirth. Anita brought one of the kittens to the grieving mom and began inspecting them. This is not a common occurrence and does not always work, but they were hoping for the best. This way, Georgia would have someone to care for and the little kittens would have a mom.
After receiving the biopsy results, Georgia was diagnosed with cancer, but thankfully it is treatable, meaning she will begin treatment as soon as the kittens are big enough to be weaned. Georgia is somewhat happy again and will soon be completely healthy. Below are some heartwarming photos of this admirable blended family.
