‘Upsetting’: $180m NFL superstar Tyreek Hill drops epic celebration hours after ‘absurd’ arrest

Star Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police Sunday morning entering the team’s stadium for its NFL Week 1 opener against the Jaguars, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told multiple reporters.

Video footage appears to show Hill laying flat on his stomach outside his car getting handcuffed by police.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reports Hill was cited for reckless driving after speeding and got into a verbal altercation with police after being pulled over. He was released after being cited.

Hill, 30, is active for Monday’s game.

“It’s very upsetting … to see the way he was treated,” Rosenhaus said during a television interview with NFL Network inside the stadium after the incident.

“It’s unnecessary. there’s no reason Tyreek should’ve been treated that way.”

Rosenhaus called the situation “absurd” and said Hill felt like things “got way out of hand,” adding they’d be talking to legal representation.

“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released,” the Dolphins said in a statement.

“Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”

After winning a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, Hill signed a four-year $180 million (AUD) deal with the Dolphins in 2022.

“Arresting the cheetah is crazy …. free reek,” his former Chiefs teammate Chris Jones tweeted.

Hill later suited up for the Dolphins in their season open against the Jaguars.

Hill was largely kept quiet by the Jacksonville defence before breaking clear to register a stunning 80-yard touchdown.

He then celebrated by placing his hands behind his back and allowing a teammate Waddle to “detain”.

The Dolphins came from behind to seal a 20-17 victory with kicker Jason Sanders nailing a 54-yard field goal with the final play of the game.
