In Week 2, should I trade De’Von Achane? Fantasy outlook for Dolphins running back

Should I trade De’Von Achane in Week 2? Fantasy projection for Dolphins RB
De’Von Achane was projected as a top-3 running back for 2024 fantasy football alongside Breece Hall and Christian McCaffrey. However, given the workload on running backs, it’s always nice to have a backup, as the Miami Dolphins are learning heading into Week 2.

Both Achane and Raheem Mostert popped up on the Dolphins’ injury report ahead of their Thursday Night Football faceoff against the Buffalo Bills. With Achane doubtful to face the Bills this week, should you reconsider having him on your roster? Here’s all you need to know about Achane’s fantasy stock.

Should I trade De’Von Achane this week?
Not by any means. Achane didn’t have the most productive of nights in Week 1. He ran the ball just 10 times for 24 yards, averaging 2.4 yards per carry. Those aren’t league-leading numbers, nor are they numbers that will win you your fantasy football matchup week in and week out.

Achane’s RB colleague Raheem Mostert didn’t too any better. He ran for just nine yards on six attempts at 1.5 yards per carry. At least Achane managed to salvage his night with a touchdown but all in all it was a disappointing night for the Dolphins’ RB room.

Does that mean you should trade Achane? That’s a resounding no.

After the Bills, Miami goes up against Seattle, Tennessee and New England – all opportunities for Achane’s stock to rise. What’s more, the Dolphins have a bye week in Week 6, following which they go up against the Colts. Trade Achane at your own peril.

Will De’Von Achane play in Week 2?
Achane’s injury update doesn’t make for positive reading. Firstly, it’s a short turnaround for both the Dolphins and the Bills for TNF kickoff.

Secondly, Achane’s dealing with an ankle injury which would hamper his play on the off chance the Dolphins take the risk and play him. However, it’s more likely Miami rests Achane this week.

He’s their leading running back and it’s a long season. Both Achane and Mostert were DNPs for two straight days so don’t expect them to face the Bills on Thursday night.

If neither Achane or Mostert feature against Buffalo, expect the Dolphins to turn to Jaylen Wright—who was a healthy scratch in Week 1—and veteran back Jeff Wilson Jr.

De’Von Achane fantasy projection
Last year, Achane played just 11 games but that was evidence enough to boost his fantasy stock. Achane averaged nearly 8 yards per carry and 17.3 fantasy points per game. Those are Tier 1 numbers.

The Dolphins have solid options at RB. They can manage Achane’s workload to get the best out of him (especially after looking at what happened with the Niners and Christian McCaffrey in Week 1) with Mostert and Jaylen Wright in the mix.

Even so, we know Mike McDaniel loves speed in his offense, and Achane is a fast running back. And an efficient one. There’s a lot to like when it comes to Achane’s fantasy projection this year. Achane slipped to RB11 in our Fantasy Football Rankings this year but if you really want to make the most out of him on your roster, make sure you get Mostert in there too.
